Reminiscent Summertime

Thank you for taking time to read my poem. I appreciate all of you who come here to read and comment.

First, I would like to thank Christine and David. Christine, thank you for the nomination to be PoW. David, thank you for your time and effort in organizing and bringing us the W3 poetry prompts each week.

This is a first for me (pun intended) 😊. Hosting a poetry prompt, I am humbled. I hope you all enjoy and I am excited to read the responses. Have fun creating!

Reminiscent Summertime

An echo poem

It all began with a glance
glance
A quick look that had me in a trance
trance
Butterflies in my stomach do a dance
dance
Not like the two-step but the Harlem shake
shake

My first adolescent crush
crush
Had my face all flushed
flushed
Suddenly cheeks turn beet red like blush
blush
Ah this puppy love, what a rush
rush

Holding hands at summer camp
camp
Eyes light up bright, like a lamp
lamp
Sweat beads on my forehead, damp
damp
Oh, I wonder if he thinks I’m a tramp
tramp

Only one thing is for sure
sure
Summer camp is nothing but pure
pure
Hot fun in the lush green land
land
One must experience it to understand
understand?

Remnants of Childhood

Jumping Double Dutch
Remnants of hot summer days
Remain in my heart
Days of double dutch, tag
Jacks, dodge ball, have made a depart
Lessons of friendship, community
Acceptance, family and humility
Still lovingly lingering
Hardships, trials of life
Showing no immunity
Gratitude, compassion, thankfulness
Rising steadily

Remnants of Childhood was written in response to the W3 #164 prompt.

B & K Park Excursion

A day in the park

A Tanka

Just another day
Pizza or McDonald's, hmm
In the neighborhood
We at Lincoln Park chillin'
Sit down, relax, be easy

This Tanka is written in response to Sadje’s prompt. Thank you for reading! 💞🙏

Can You Answer This? What is Your Favorite Childhood Game?

What is Your Favorite Childhood Game?

Hopscotch

Growing up was such a fun time. Every family had their challenges but overall, it was a good time to just be a kid. Go outside, play with friends on your block or in your neighborhood. Today’s children are so isolated. The video games and internet have robbed children of social skills.

Back in the day, we played outside. The girls would play double dutch, or we would play with our dolls and tea sets. We would play dress up too. The boys would play football in the street or hand ball, stick ball. Games everyone played together are hide and seek, red light, green light, hopscotch, hot peas and butter, Mother May I.

My favorite childhood games were double dutch and hopscotch. I liked Jacks too. What was your favorite game to play when you were a child?

As always, thank you for taking the time to read. Stay well and be blessed.

It’s Just You and Me, Teddy

Let’s go find someone to play Duck, duck goose or jump rope. Teddy, we are almost there. Just down the road we should be able to find someone to play Hide and Seek with. I guess we can’t play Hopscotch or Double Dutch, I don’t see any concrete. Oh, I know, let’s play Mother May I? Teddy, where is everyone? I guess they are all indoors sitting in front of their video games and on their cell phones. Who do we have to play with now? Oh well, I guess it’s just you and me Teddy.

It’s Just You and Me, Teddy was written in response to the picture prompt, What do you see by Sadje. http://lifeafter50forwomen.com/2023/11/13/what-do-you-see-212-13-november-2023/

Can You Answer This? Name One of Your Favorite Cartoon Characters

Can You Answer This? Name one of your favorite cartoon characters and tell us why.

Back in the day cartoons were something that most kids looked forward to watching on Saturday mornings. After school was a popular time to watch too.

One of my favorite cartoon characters is Wile E. Coyote. He was a villain, but I admire his tenacity. No matter how many times he was run over, smashed with a boulder, hit in the head and blown up with dynamite; he never gave up!! He had some determination in his quest to catch Road Runner.

Even though Road Runner outsmarted him, Wile E. would plot out his attempts and see them through, no matter what. He didn’t let any obstacle stand in his way! I can’t count how many times he has fallen from a cliff and still came back. He is resilient! Gotta love that. 🙂

Tell us who you pick and why.
