Show Your Hand, Raise It High

Show Your Hand, Raise It High

Show your hand, raise it high
Shyness has no place, let your aura shine
Block the naysayers, they will try to deny
The gold band protection, just like an alibi

Show your hand, raise it high
Let your positivity glow
Inspire people and make them smile
Where it comes from, they will never know

Show your hand, raise it high
When people feel like they can't
They look to you, see that it is possible
Doubt in their minds, start to recant

If the gold band gives you courage to muster
Your inner thoughts that make you fluster
Show your hand, raise it high
Gold band speaks for itself, no need to specify

This Is the Life

This Is the Life

You know you have it good
When you are in the neighborhood
Being toted around town
Puppy pads not touching down

Taking in the sights
With much joy and delight
Watching everyone on their feet
Walking to the tune of life's beat

From a place of comfort, I watch
Relishing in this life
Letting the bunions breathe
I can take a reprieve

Sitting in my carrying tote
Feeling the breeze on my furry coat
Enjoying the beautiful scenery
The lush trees, flowers and greenery

This is the life, this is the life

Mixed Bag of Trash

Mixed Bag of Trash

I can only read so much
Of this BS and such and such
Who in their right mind
This info is so maligned

Where are the hopeful stories
Of animal rescues and watching lories
Of good-will and cheer
Of not crime and fear

Stories about curing cancer
Slashing grocery prices like a lancer
Restoring faith in the system
Less about being a robbery victim

Thieves need to get a job
Stop stealing and being a slob
People work hard for their money
This is not the land of milk and honey

What about affordable housing and gas
Less homelessness, are these things of the past
Where are the stories to make you smile
Laugh inside and not bring up the bile

Bile that makes you want to gag
Reading news about this mixed bag
Report on something better
About successes and the go-getters

Maybe then I can read this thing
See a story that makes me want to sing
And not want to set the pages ablaze
Watching the ashes blow away in a haze

Interjection

Interjection

Excuse me, may I interject
Let me put things into retrospect
I am a human, animate
Between two sculptures, laminate

Laminate, sculptures void of life
Stone-faced, emotionless
Let me inject some feelings
Sadness, indifference, or joy will suffice

Sadness has its place of reflection
The level of sadness depends on the inflection
Inflection in the voice of the owner
The owner who claims it

Indifference can go either way
You either care or you don't
Feelings have a way to sway
Even the most stone-faced and emotionless

Joy is what turns it all around
What makes a smile out of a frown
Let your joy astound
Inject joy and peace will abound

Lost Memories of Yesteryear

Lost Memories of Yesteryear

Open me, open me
What is inside
The suspense is killing me
Taking me on a wild ride

A new pair of shoes
A new dress
My mind is wandering
Let me take a guess

Open me, open me
But please don't shake
The sound may give it away
What has taken a long time to make

A photo album
put together nicely
Fond memories of yesteryear
Nothing too pricey

Open me, open me
If you get lonely or sad
Just look at the pictures
You will be glad you had

Memories of yesteryear
what a joy to see
lost in the back of my mind
What a delight to finally find

Where’s My Sugar?

Where’s My Sugar?

Where's my sugar?
Are you going to kiss me or what?
These circles are starting to make me dizzy
Besides, I don't have all day, she says.
He replies, Alright, don't get in a tizzy

She adds, we don't have to touch
Just put your lips on mine
Pucker up and lay it on me
Really, is that too much?

Shyly, he says, It's just that...I'm in a daze
The circles put me in a trance
Your eyes are so beautiful
I'm locked in a gaze

Impatiently, she replies, the circle of life is not infinite
Maybe we'll meet again but I have to go now
When we next see, I'll lay a kiss on you so good
You can't help but to take a bow

I Done Told You!

I Done Told You!

Knock before coming in.

Shakira was getting ready for her special date. She had all her “accessories” lined up and ready to go. The wig that she just bought, the fake eyelashes and press on nails were all on the dresser in her bedroom.

Suddenly, as she is sitting there at the vanity, getting pretty she sees her teenage son in the mirror. He had just walked in without knocking.

He got scared at the sight of this “stranger” in his Mom’s room. There Shakira was without her wig, nails and lashes on. No make-up either. He ran out of the room and came back with a baseball bat. “Who are you and what are you doing here?!” he demanded. “Where is my Mom?”

Shakira stood up in her bra and butt pads, turned around to face him then he realized who she was.

She snapped at him, I done told you about coming in my room without knocking first boy!  You don’t listen. Now you got me all riled up. I’m gonna be late getting ready for my date.

Totally embarrassed by walking in and seeing his mom that way, he just walked out and went back to his room. That’s a sight he wants to forget; sooner rather than later.

Lesson learned, never enter a room without knocking. You never know what you will find on the other side of that door.

You have been warned.

Looking Into the Splendor

Looking into the Splendor
Image by Mick Haupt on Unsplash
Looking into the splendor
Beyond the door I see light
Openness, growth and happiness
Beyond the door I see life
A place so full of opportunity

But, behind the door is another thing entirely
Behind the door there is darkness
Gloom, sadness and no excitement

Cross the threshold, into the light
Feel the openness as you entertain things outside of your realm of reality
Experience the growth, as you come to your own conclusion
Bask in the happiness, only you can make this happen
Life is all around us in physical form, but some rely more on the digital world
Opportunity abounds, just open your eyes and choose to see

Looking into the splendor

Majestic Observation

Majestic Observation

Majestic eyes
see many a thing
some of which
makes my heart sing

People take one look at me
they often wonder
is this a fierce beast
or do I see majesty

A big lion with small eyes
eyes that observe much
from a vantage point fit
for the likes of a lion and such

Such beauty in the wild
things that we ignore
slow down, take stock
these things you will flock

Flock to observe these majestic creatures
their imposing size, big mane
mighty roar, intoxicating gaze
among other features

A fierce beast or a big cat
what do you see?

Love and Acceptance

Love and Acceptance

Image by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

Holding you close
Showing you love
Is what mothers do
A bundle of joy, so pure like a dove

As Mom’s doing our best
Protecting from the elements
Of hurt, pain and disappointments
Is something that one must not jest

A child and their mother
Is a lifeline like no other
Hearing your child’s laughter
Is a sound not comparable to another

Seeing your child grow
Acceptance encompassing you both
Supporting notions and dreams
Sharing with each other, letting them know

Through a mother’s embrace
You are loved and accepted
